The Model Trains & Planes Blog

On August 2005, a Tuninter ATR-72 ran out of fuel and was forced to ditch in the sea near Palermo, Italy. Of the 39 people on board, 16 lost their lives. The mistake was simply the installation of the wrong fuel gauge from a similar model of plane. This displayed an inaccurate reading; significantly higher than what fuel was actually on board.

    You don’t inflate your vest because you wont be able to escape the cabin should it fill with water – you’ll be too bouyant.

    Hi all you ACI/MAYDAY fans, hasn’t andybody noticed with most of these aircrashes, that the Captain was one of the best in his Airline? Flew in the Miliarty etc., This is most concerning, I must say as I don’t like flying!!!

  22. Nneka1963

    PS. I don’t like this new YT layout!!! :o (

    @shazmatica i live in manchester!

    Why didnt the crew notice that the fuelburn was incorrect during the first flight? I thought that virtually all commercial pilots check the fuel enroute.
